Today Part 1: Good Nutrition

What kind of diet should we be eat?

  • 5 to 9 Servings of fruits and veggies each day
  • Low Fat (fruits, veggies, skinless chicken breast, skinless turkey breasts, egg whites)
  • High Fiber (Avocados, apples, kale, sweet potatoes, raspberries)
  • Healthy Proteins (Fish, Poultry, Beans)
  • Avoid process foods

What Not To Eat!

  • Cut out fast food and frozen dinners
  • Limit the junk food snacks…they are full of empty calories
  • No Soda…the typical soda has 140 calories and 9 teaspoons of sugar

More on What our body needs

  • Macronutrients which include healthy proteins, heart healthy fats, and complex carbs
    • Healthy Poteins ( Fish, Poultry, Beans)
    • Omega 3 fatty acid…recommended 2 serving per week
    • Complex Carbs (Whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, beans, oatmeal, bran)
  • Micronutrients which include vitamins and minerals
  • Phytonutrients which are the natural bioactive compound in plants that confer color to fruits and veggies, they are also powerful antioxidants that help to protect the cells of the body from free radicals. An example would be beta-carotene.

Remember that if we just start small makes changes as we go we can all achieve better health through good nutrition.
