New Get Clean Water from Shaklee

Get Clean Water Get the new “Get Clean” Water filtration pitcher from Shaklee.  We all know that there can be harmful contaminates in our water and who wants to be constantly going to the store to buy bottles of water…not to mention all the plastic used to make those bottles and the amount of waste they create. The “Get Clean” Water filtration pitcher is a great way to save money, be green, and know that the water you are drinking is safe, clean, and tastes great!

I can’t wait to get this product. I am tired of buying bottled water or gallon jugs of water. The water we have in our new house is not something I want to drink without it being filtered first!

Save Money…Plant A Garden

Now that I am a stay at home Mom! We are finding as many ways as possible to reduce the amount of money we spend. One way we decided to do that is by putting in a vegetable garden. Not only does this save us money on the items we buy at the grocery store, but this way we know exactly where our veggies are coming from and what has been put on them. I used organic plant food and organic bug killer with no pesticides in them…this way I know that we are not eating the residue of anything toxic!

I planted the garden Memorial weekend and have already been enjoying many fresh vegetables.

Items in my garden:

Tomatoes – 3 variates

Basil

Jalapeno Peppers

Red Pepper

“Hottie” Peppers

Green Peppers

Sweet Potatoes

Zucchini

Cucumbers

Watermelon

Pumpkins

Onions

Swiss Chard

Here is what we have done with the ripe items so far…

Swiss Chard: We use on sandwiches and in salads…no more buying lettuce!

Basil: Made pesto, use in salads, to flavor many recipes, and to make spreads.

Zucchini: Great grilled as a side dish for dinner, made zucchini muffins and bread.

Peppers: Use to flavor many recipes, use in salsa, and dried for future use

Cucumbers: Made cucumber salads, eat plain, and made pickles

Uses for future ripe items:

Tomatoes: Will be used in salads, on sandwiches, to make salsa, and to make spaghetti sauce

Onions: Will be used in salads, on sandwiches, in many recipes and to make salsa

Hopefully you can use these ideas to create your own garden or to use the items you already have in a garden. Any other ideas I haven’t mentioned for these items please let me know.

Get On The Road To A Healthier Life Part 5

Part 5 Supplementing

On a daily basis how many of us really believe we get the amount of vitamins our body needs from the foods we eat. I know that I don’t even though I try.  We then need to take our vitamins to supplement our diet so are body is able to get the vitamins it needs so we can be healthy.

Vitamins are essential micro nutrients that the body cannot supple in sufficient quantities itself. The vitamins are supplied to our body through the food we eat and what we drink. We can also get vitamins through taking supplements.

What we need to take daily:

1. A Multi Vitamin which contains your major vitamins A, B, and C

2. A Probiotic

3. Extra Antioxidents (Vitamins C, E, Carotenoidst, and Flavonoids)

4. Calcium and Vitamin D

Benefits:

Vitamin C: protects against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling.

Vitamin A: Acts as anti-oxidant, helping to protect our cells against cancer and other disease, improves our vision and prevents night blindness, and many others

Vitamin B: B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12) work together synergistically to provide the body a number of benefits. B Vitamins help convert carbs into energy, boosts your immunity, and increases energy, and promotes hair, nail, and skin health.

Probiotics:  Improves lactose intolerance, and may improve nutrient bioavailability, for B vitamins, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium and phosphorus, among others.

Axiodidents: Protect against cancer, help with eye heath, protects our central nervous systems, helps create stronger immune systems, and protects us against heart attacks and stokes.

Calcium: Makes our bones strong!

Vitamin D: Aids in the absorption of calcium, helps protect again osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and cancer. It also has been shown to help keep our minds working well as we get older. They are finding more benefits to vitamin D everyday.

Life sure does change fast! Living Happy, Healthy, and Green has been important to me for some time now, but now that my baby boy is here its even more important! It’s amazing how this little life that you create can bring a lot of things into perspective. It makes me think even harder about what I am eating, what items I am smelling and breathing in that he would be breathing in as well, and I want to healthy to play with him for many years to come. I also want my home to be a safe place for him to grow and flourish without the thought of him becoming sick from everyday household items.

I am going to expand the themes of my blog posts to include ways to live happy, healthy, and green on a budget and talk about what I am doing to try to save as much money as possible now living on one income and still eat, clean, and live healthy and green.

Here is a list of some of my ideas that I am going to work on and keep you updated on how well they work.

1. Planted a veggie and herb garden

2. Going to teach myself to sow

3. Learn to make my own cleaning product and other household items

4. Plan meals and grocery shopping based on coupons and sales

5. Shop the local farmers market for fresh in season fruits and veggies
